What We're Fighting For
Restoring Public Service in Public Office
We have far too many people in positions of power who are not looking out for their constituents. They consider these positions to be just “jobs;” it is the people’s work they are performing.
Diop sees public office as a responsibility to serve the people. This campaign is powered by and for our people.
Having worked as a staffer on Capitol Hill, Diop knows what public service should look like: you listen when your constituents call, show up when they need help, and ask what they need to make their own dreams for their community a reality. But Bill Huizenga? He’s locked his doors, shut off his phones, and turned his back on the very people he’s supposed to represent. Unless you’re Donald Trump or Betsy DeVos, he’s not listening.
Diop’s not another suit talking down to you — he’s from here, he’s for us, and he’s running to serve the people.
Tackling the Climate Crisis
The UN has predicted that societies across the globe will begin to collapse around 2040 due to resource constraints wrought by climate change. Business as usual can no longer cut it - we must acknowledge the climate crisis and take it head on.
Southwest Michigan is the most beautiful place on Earth. If we want to keep it that way, we need to revolutionize our economy to be cleaner and more sustainable. Not just rethinking our energy system, but how we produce and consume things. The good news is that Michiganders have already begun the transition: to grow food differently, use resources creatively, and switch to renewable energy. What we need is bold leadership to take these practices to the next level.
Strengthening Our Base to Build New Things Here
The climate crisis is not just an existential threat to humanity, but an opportunity for a new era of American innovation.
Cities have now built and tested self-charging roads for EVs. We are developing technologies so that dumpsters can convert everyday trash into water vapor and electricity. We’ve even begun to build flying cars. Investing in our local economies isn’t “woke,” but a chance to bring entire industries into their next generation, and create dignified jobs.
We need a Congressperson who is going to secure funding for those projects to be built here in Michigan.
Putting the Focus Back on Education
MAGA Republicans are working day and night to ensure our children don’t receive a proper education. Their proposed cuts to education in the “Big Beautiful Bill” would close down schools and leave kids hungry. By banning books and restricting access to a decent education, they’re making our country dumber. Rather than help students learn, they want to train teachers to become riflemen and care more about banning kids from teams than actually funding youth sports.
Let’s give our schools the resources that students need to learn, and ensure that our educators are taken care of, too. Let’s reform our curriculum to ensure students can learn from our past and the present, and have the skills to fully participate in society. Let’s bring down the cost of post-secondary education and provide relief for families who have been trapped in student debt nightmares. The people who are closest to the work know it best; let’s ensure parents have a voice and teachers have the tools to educate the next generation.
Fighting for Our Nation’s Veterans
It should make us sick to our stomachs that the folks who have sacrificed the most for our country are too often treated the worst. Their treatment reflects the health of our nation - and right now, it’s sick.
But we can heal and get better.
Diop believes that if we start by taking care of our veterans, then we can build a system that takes care of everyone. That means quality healthcare - including mental health - during and after service. That means good-paying jobs when they come home. Let’s treat our vets the way they should have been treated all along — and let’s make that the standard for every single American. Let’s do it now.
